World’s wealthiest people continue getting wealthier

The wealth of billionaires around the world reached USD 15 trillion last year, a leap from USD 13 trillion a year earlier, as reported by international humanitarian organization Oxfam on Monday, the 20th of January.
Last year, the growth of wealth was three times faster than a year prior, as mentioned in the report from “Oxfam”.
There were 2 769 billionaires in the world last year. This is 204 more than in 2023.
On average, the wealth of one billionaire grew by USD 2 million per day, while the wealthiest ten billionaires became richer on average by USD 100 million per day.
“Oxfam” explains that even if they suddenly lost 99% of their wealth, they would still be billionaires.
The report also mentions that in 60% of cases billionaires earned their wealth thanks to inheritance, monopoly or contacts. “Oxfam” estimates show that 36% of billionaires acquired their wealth by inheriting it.
“Oxfam” also predicts that in ten years’ time there will be at least five trillionaires.
