Wintry mood: snow to blanket Latvia on Friday and Saturday

On Friday, the 22nd of November, the weather will be cloudy, with occasional clear skies and sunshine. Snow, sleet is expected in many parts of the country, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Snow cover will rise by 5cm in places. Everyone should be careful due to icy roads and reduced visibility during snowfall! During the night, there will be a gentle to moderate wind from the west-south-west, shifting to the south-south-west during the day. Gusts will reach 15-17m/s along the coast during the night and in the east during the day. Temperatures will drop to 0…-4 degrees at night, a few degrees warmer on the coast and -1…+3 degrees during the day.

Over the weekend, there will be variable clouds, so more sunshine is expected, and precipitation is expected in places, mainly wet snow and snow on Saturday and rain on Sunday.

On Saturday, snow cover will increase by 2-4 cm in some areas. Roads will be slippery! Winds will continue to be slow to moderate, gusting up to 15-16m/s along the coast. At night the air temperatures will cool to 0…-5 degrees, though on the coast the temperatures will not drop below 0 degrees. During the day, the temperature will rise to -1…+6 degrees.

According to the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology, a large cyclone will approach Latvia early next week, with several precipitation zones crossing the country and gusty winds expected along the coast. However, the weather will become slightly warmer, with night-time temperatures in many areas not dropping below -1 degrees in the first half of the week, and warming up to +6…+8 degrees during the day.
