Wintery weather to continue in Latvia in the coming days

Wintery conditions will persist in Latvia in the coming days. The week will begin with light snowfall in some areas and frost, with temperatures locally dropping below −15°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

In the first half of the week, the amount of precipitation will decrease significantly, skies will clear more often, and winds will briefly strengthen. In the second half of the week, an atmospheric front will approach the country from the west, bringing snow to western regions, while the rest of Latvia is not expected to see precipitation.

On Monday, the 12th of January, skies will be mostly cloudy, though they will clear in places. Light snow is expected locally. Winds will be light. Maximum daytime air temperatures will range between −5°C and −10°C, while the Kurzeme coast will be slightly warmer.

On Tuesday and Wednesday skies will clear at times with some sunshine, and precipitation will decrease considerably.

Only on Tuesday is light snow expected in some eastern areas. On Tuesday night, fog may form in parts of Kurzeme under light winds, reducing visibility. On Wednesday, southeasterly to easterly winds will strengthen during the day and become gusty, reaching up to 15 m/s along the Kurzeme coast. Nighttime temperatures will drop to −11°C to −16°C, while along the Gulf coast they will range between −5°C and −10°C.

During the day, temperatures across most of Latvia will rise to −5°C to −10°C, with the Kurzeme Gulf coast being about one degree warmer.

On teh second half of the week dry weather will prevail across most of the country, with snow expected only in western regions. Skies will clear more frequently, and at night temperatures may locally approach −20°C.
