On Tuesday, snowfall is expected mainly in the southern part of the country, but by the evening it will spread to many areas across Latvia, with the snow cover increasing by 1–4 cm, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. A light to moderate easterly wind will prevail.
Minimum air temperatures at night will range from –6 to –11°C, while in Vidzeme the thermometer may drop to –13 to –18°C. During the day, maximum temperatures will be –4 to –9°C, and in the northeastern regions it will be a few degrees colder, around –10 to –11°C.
On Wednesday, mostly overcast conditions will persist, though skies will clear somewhat in the northern parts of the country. Snowfall is expected in southern Latvia, with the snow cover increasing by 2–4 cm and in some places even by 5–7 cm. Roads will be slippery in places, and visibility will worsen during snowfall. A light to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will blow, and from the second half of the night gusts along the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga may reach up to 15 m/s.
Air temperatures will remain between –5 and –10°C, while at night in Vidzeme they may fall to –11 to –16°C.
On Thursday, skies will be cloudy, with clearing in many areas at night and in some places during the day. Snow is expected overnight in Latgale, with the snow cover increasing by 1–3 cm. A light to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will continue. Minimum night-time temperatures will drop further compared to previous days, reaching –13 to –17°C, and –8 to –13°C in Kurzeme. Daytime maximum temperatures will also be slightly lower, at –9 to –14°C.
Over the coming weekend and at the beginning of next week, precipitation will subside, skies will become clearer, and a light to moderate easterly wind will persist. Although weather forecasts remain variable, winter-like negative temperatures will continue, and on some nights—especially in eastern regions—temperatures may drop below –20°C.
