The sky will remain cloudy on Wednesday and Thursday. Precipitation will appear every now and then – mainly wet snow and rain, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Snowing will come to various areas on Wednesday, increasing the layer of snow by 1 – 3 cm. Fog will appear in eastern areas at night, adversely affecting visibility. Roads will be slippery as well, meteorologists warn.
The wind will be slow to moderate of speed and will blow from the south and south-west, reaching a speed of 15-18 m/sec. On Thursday afternoon the wind will blow from the south and south-east. Wind speed will reach 22 m/sec along the coast! Air temperature at night and during the day will stay within -1° C… +4° C.
On Friday, a small but active cyclone centre will be located over the territory of Latvia, and as the air temperature drops, clouds will bring prolonged snow and wet snow, sometimes also in blizzards. In part of the country, snow cover may increase by 5 – 9 cm, which will significantly worsen driving conditions. Slow to moderate winds will gradually intensify from the north, north-west during the day and become more gusty. At night, the thermometer column will drop to 0° C… -5° C, but will not climb higher than -2° C… +2° C.
Weather will gradually become calmer on the weekend – snowfall will continue in many places on Saturday and winds will remain gusty. On Sunday, precipitation will gradually subside, and wind speed will go down. Air temperature, both at night and during the day, will be negative in most parts of the country.
