The first half of the week will be cloudy with moments of clear sky, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On the night to Friday, the 18th of March, snow and wet snow will fall in Latvia, mostly in the east. Freezing rain and fog are expected in many parts of Latvia’s eastern territories. A small layer of snow will have formed in some areas in the morning.
Meteorologists urge motorists to be careful, as roads will be slippery because of precipitation and lower air temperature! The wind will be slow and will blow from the north and north-east. Wind speed will reach 15-18 m/sec along the coast. Colder masses of air will continue flowing to the country – at night air temperature will drop to 0° C… -3° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach 0° C… +5° C.
Meteorologists say that on Tuesday and Wednesday, as atmospheric pressure rises, wind speed will go up and precipitation intensity will go down. With slow wind speed, fog will form in eastern parts of Latvia at night and in morning hours. On Tuesday night air temperature will be around 0° C, whereas daytime air temperature will reach +4° C… +7° C (+1° C… +4° C along the coast in Kurzeme). On the night to Wednesday air temperature is expected at -2° C… +3° C, whereas daytime air temperature may exceed +5° C (+2° C… +5° C along the coast).
Warmer masses of air will flow to the country in the second half of the week. Weather will be dictated by cyclone activity. Weather will become warmer and there will be more precipitation. Nights will not be as chilly as before and daytime air temperature may reach +10° C at the end of the week.
