The strong wind will carry colder masses of air to Latvia in the coming days, causing the air temperature to drop in the entire country. The wind will be strong this weekend, reaching a speed of 25-27 m/sec. It will start calming down on the weekend. Precipitation will calm down as well, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Friday, 21 January, weather will be cloudy. Only in western areas of Latvia the clouds will part, letting the sun to shine. In the east and in morning hours in the west some snow is expected. The wind will blow from the north-west, reaching a speed of 15-18 m/sec in western and central regions, as well as 22 m/sec along the coast of the gulf, whereas along the sea coast wind speed reach a speed of 25 m/sec. Air temperature at night and during the day will stay at -2° C… +2° C.
Weather will be calmer at the end of the week – there will be less precipitation and the wind will gradually start calming down.
Weather conditions will also become colder – air temperature in the entire country.
Saturday will be cloudy. The sky will clear up at times. Many areas will experience snowfall. Moderately strong north-western wind will blow at night, reaching a speed of 20-23 m/sec. The wind will calm down during the day. Air temperature at night and during the day will be at 0° C… -4° C. On Sunday weather will be sunny in many areas of Latvia, wind speed will be slow and only a very small amount of snow will fall.
Air temperature at night will drop as far as -2° C… -7° C (-14° C in eastern territories). Daytime air temperature will remain below 0° C in all of Latvia.
According to current forecasts, air temperature will remain below 0° C in the country’s eastern territories next week. The sun will shine between the clouds every now and then. Some snow and wet snow is also expected. Wind speed will decrease as well.
