Wednesday still warm, but autumn weather to begin on Thursday

On Wednesday morning, clouds will bring rain in some western districts, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Mostly, however, a light to moderate east and southeast wind will prevail. Nighttime temperatures will range from +11°C to +16°C, while daytime highs will climb to +20°C…+25°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

On Thursday and Friday, the influence of a cyclone will be felt. From Thursday afternoon, a broad rain zone will begin crossing the country from the southwest, slowly moving northeast. Meteorologists note that on Thursday it will bring prolonged rainfall to the western and central regions, reaching the east on Friday. The weather will be not only rainy but also windy – southeast and east winds on Thursday, and southeast and south winds on Friday, will gust at 15–19 m/s across the country, up to 20 m/s along the coast. Nighttime temperatures will remain between +13°C and +18°C, while on Thursday daytime highs will still exceed +20°C. On Friday, most of the country will see temperatures between +15°C and +20°C, though it will be warmer in the west.

Rain will continue into the weekend – scattered showers on Saturday, but widespread rainfall across much of the country on Sunday. A light to moderate southerly wind will prevail. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +12°C…+16°C, while daytime highs will reach +18°C…+22°C, dipping slightly cooler on Sunday.

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre reports that early next week several rain zones will pass over the country, accompanied by cooler air, making the weather feel more autumnal compared with the pleasant start of the month. On both Monday and Tuesday, rain clouds will be widespread, winds gusty, and nighttime temperatures will fall to +11°C…+16°C, slightly milder along the coast. On Monday, the maximum temperature will reach only +16°C…+18°C, while Tuesday will be a few degrees warmer.
