Weather this week: snowy and foggy start, spring-like weekend

At the beginning of the new workweek, a large cyclone will approach Latvia, bringing cloudier skies, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Precipitation is expected on Monday: wet snow and snow in many areas, with heavy snowfall possible in the eastern regions. In the early morning, freezing rain may occur in some northeastern parts! Winds will be light. Nighttime air temperatures will range from -2°C to +2°C, while during the day, temperatures will rise to +1°C to +6°C. Along the coast, it will be a few degrees warmer – around +6°C to +8°C.

On Tuesday night, snow is expected in the east, while during the day rain may occur in some places, mainly in the northwestern regions. With light winds, fog is likely to form in many areas at the beginning of the night. From the second half of the night, winds will strengthen, reaching gusts of up to 14 m/s by midday. Due to cloud cover, negative temperatures at night will only occur in some areas, ranging between -2°C and +2°C, while during the day temperatures will reach +5°C to +10°C.

On Wednesday, rain is expected across the entire country. A light to moderate southwesterly to southerly wind will blow, becoming lighter from the second half of the night. During the night, temperatures will remain above freezing – not dropping below +1°C to +5°C. During daylight hours, most of the country will see temperatures between +5°C and +10°C, with the far southeast warming up to +11°C.

In the second half of the week, as atmospheric pressure rises, there will be less precipitation. Gradually, warmer air will move in, and the weekend will be spring-like and warm.
