Weather forecast: wet snow and slippery roads in Latvia

Thursday, the 23rd of January, will be cloudy in Latvia. Local precipitation is expected – mainly wet snow and snow. Freezing rain is expected in eastern territories. This means roads may become slippery! The wind will blow from the south and south-east and will be strong during the day. Daytime air temperature will reach -1° C… +2° C, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The sky will remain cloudy on Friday. The sky is expected to clear up around the afternoon along the coast. A precipitation zone will start passing through Latvia on the night to Friday, bringing snow, wet snow and rain. The layer of snow may reach 1-3 cm in some areas.

Meteorologists note that as the wind becomes slower, many eastern parts of the country will see fog, which will impact visibility. Air temperature at night and during the day will stay at 0° C… +4° C.

Cyclone activity will go up at the end of the week. This means more precipitation. Wind speed will remain mostly unchanged. On Saturday night fog will appear in eastern parts of the country. Air temperature will rise by a couple of degrees on the weekend and exceed +5° C.

The beginning of next week will be calm: wind speed will go down and air temperature will remain positive. Nevertheless, the volume of precipitation will continue going up.
