On Wednesday, skies will be cloudy, gradually clearing from the north. Snowfall is expected in many areas, mainly in the southern part of the country. Overnight, the snow cover will increase by 5–6 cm, while during the day snowfall will ease and the snow cover will grow by a further 2–4 cm, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Roads will be slippery in places, and visibility will deteriorate during snowfall. A light to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will blow, with gusts reaching 15–16 m/s in northern Kurzeme. Air temperatures will range between –5°C and –10°C, while at night in Vidzeme and Latgale thermometers will drop to –9°C to –14°C.
On Thursday night, skies will remain partly cloudy, but sunny weather is expected during the day and will continue into Friday. Light snowfall is possible in some southeastern areas on Thursday night, after which no further precipitation is expected. A light to moderate northeasterly to easterly wind will persist. While temperatures will fall to –12°C to –17°C in many areas on Thursday night,
Friday night will be even colder, with temperatures dropping to –18°C to –23°C across a wider area.
During the day on Friday, air temperatures in many places will not rise above –10°C.
Over the weekend and at the beginning of next week, skies will clear more frequently and no precipitation is expected. A light to moderate easterly wind will continue. Although weather forecasts remain changeable, winter-like negative temperatures will persist. At night, temperatures will fall below –20°C in many areas, especially in central and eastern Latvia, and in some places may approach –25°C.
