Tuesday, the 7th of January, will be mostly cloudy in Latvia. A wide precipitation area will pass through the country at night – snow will come to many parts of the country. However, snow will transition into wet snow and rain. Freezing rain is expected as well, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Local rain showers are possible. Orange Level Warning due to the danger of ice on roads and walkways will remain in effect until morning hours.
Meteorologists remind that motorists and other road traffic participants should be especially careful! The wind will be slow and will blow from the south and south-east and may reach the speed of 15-17 m/sec. Minimal air temperature will be 0° C… -4° C both at night and during the day.
On Wednesday and Thursday the sky will remain cloudy, with moments of clear sky. Precipitation is expected in many parts of the country.
In areas that will experience snowing the layer of snow will increase by 2-4 cm. Fog may appear at night, impacting visibility! Roads will be slippery! The wind will be slow to moderate and will blow from the south and south-west. Wind speed along the coast will reach 20 m/sec! Air temperature at night and during the day will reach 0° C… +4° C. Air temperature may drop below 0° C on Thursday.
In the second half of the week, weather conditions will remain similar – the skies will be mostly cloudy, precipitation is expected in many places, mainly snow and wet snow, slow to moderate winds will continue to blow. The air temperature at night will stay between +1° C… -5° C (warmer along the coast), but during the day the air will warm up to -1° C… +2° C.
