Volume of freight handled by Ventspils sea port terminals up 10.6%

Terminals located at Ventspils sea port have handled 3.966 million tonnes of freight in the first three months of 2022, which is 10.6% more when compared to the same period of 2021, according to information from Latvia’s Ministry of Transport.
In Q1 2022 a total of 2.957 million tonnes of freight was sent from Ventspils sea port, which is 2.8% more when compared to the same period of 2021. The volume of received freight has increased 42.2%, reaching 1.009 million tonnes.
In the first three months of 2022 Ventspils sea port terminals handled 1.65 million tonnes of bulk freight, which is 2.6 times more when compared to the first three months of 2021,
as well as 1.597 million tonnes of liquid freight, which is a drop of 30.8%, and 719 800 tonnes of general freight, which is 13.1% more than last year.
Terminals of Ventspils sea port also handled 1.443 million tonnes of petroleum products in the first three months of 2022, which is 33.8% less when compared to the same period of 2021.The volume of coal handled by terminals was 1.22 million tonnes (no coal was handled in the first three months of 2021). The volume of Ro-Ro (roll on/roll off) freight handled by terminals in Ventspils was 590 000 tonnes, which is 6.1% more.
In total, Ventspils sea port’s terminals handled 11.081 million tonnes of freight last year, which is 14.1% less when compared to 2020. 3.585 million tonnes of freight was handled in the first three months.
Ventspils sea port is the second largest sea port of Latvia handled freight volume-wise.
