In Estonia, the cap on the average number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients set by the government as a condition for lifting the Covid-19 digital certificate on February 21 is currently unrealistic to reach, according to leading virologist Irja Lutsar, as quoted by public broadcaster ERR.
Earlier in February, the government headed by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas decided to lift the Covid-19 digital certificate requirement for entering public premises, which has been in effect since autumn 2021, if the average number of new daily Covid-19 hospitalisations would not reach 25 over a period of ten days.

On Wednesday, February 9, virology professor Lutsar noted that looking at the high infection rate and the number of people in need of hospital treatment, the goal is unrealistic. The expert evaluated that the number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus would increase in the near future.
ERR reports that the number of patient being admitted to Estonia’s hospitals with serious cases of Covid-19 is gradually increasing and was 270 as on Wednesday. A total of 413 patients had Covid-19 in Estonian hospitals on Wednesday with all of them are being treated for the illness.
