VIDEO | Putin says Biden as President better for Russia than Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview broadcast on Rossiya 1 on Wednesday, the 14th of February, that Joe Biden as President would be better for Russia than Donald Trump. This was the first time Putin publicly commented on the 2024 US elections, in which Biden and Trump are expected to face off for the second time, reports Politico.
The interviewer asked Putin which of the two candidates – Democrat Biden or Republican Trump – was “better for us” and Putin opted for Biden, saying that

Biden was a more experienced and predictable leader, describing him as an old-school politician.

“But we will work with any US leader who is trusted by the American people,” said Putin.

Trump has been criticised during his presidency for his friendly relations with Putin and recently drew further criticism by saying he would “encourage” Russia to do as it pleases against NATO members that fail to meet defence spending targets.
In Wednesday’s interview, Putin also backed Biden’s cognitive abilities, which were questioned last week by the Justice Ministry’s special counsel.
Putin dismissed claims that Biden’s mental capacity was deteriorating, saying that he had not seen any such signs during a meeting in Switzerland in 2021, shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine, adding that even then everyone was talking about Biden’s incompetence.
“Yes, he looked at his notes. To be honest, I looked at mine too,” Putin is quoted as saying. He expressed more concern about Washington’s political position, which

he considered “extremely harmful and erroneous”,

than about Biden’s health.
The report by the Justice Department’s special counsel recently described Biden as “a kind-hearted, elderly man with a poor memory”.
Trump has also faced doubts about his age and mental acuity, with the Biden campaign suggesting that his judgement is declining and often describing him as “confused”.
