VIDEO | Ecolines bus lights on fire on Ventspils motorway

An Ecolines brand bus partially burned down in Ķemeri on Ventspils motorway on Friday, the 28th of February. Passengers were not injured in this incident, LETA reports.

At 13:00 the State Fire and Rescue Service received a call, detailing a bus on fire, the service reports.

Passengers were evacuated from the vehicle before the fire fighters’ arrival.

Rescuers unplugged the bus battery and are currently continuing to work on the scene.

Videos posted on social media show the fire originated in the rear on the bus.

Andris Podgornijs, Chairman of the Board of Ecolines in Latvia, explained to LETA that the flammable situation occurred because the exhaust heating up. At the same time, he indicated that it will be possible to use the bus again after replacing the exhaust. Podgornijs estimated that the cost of repairs could be around EUR 15 000. Podgornijs also noted that this problem is relatively common.
