The Biden campaign joined the politically controversial TikTok on Sunday, the 11th of February, and debuted with a post during the Super Bowl. The video showed President Joe Biden answering American football-related questions to launch his new account aimed at reaching out to young voters ahead of the presidential elections in November, reports Politico.
Asked whether he was a Kansas City Chiefs or San Francisco 49ers fan, Biden humorously said the Philadelphia Eagles would be his choice, otherwise “I’d be sleeping alone” because “my wife is a Philadelphia girl”.

The decision by the Biden campaign to join the social media platform comes at a time when the company is under scrutiny for its Chinese-based ownership. Last year, the White House ordered government agencies to remove TikTok from government-owned phones and devices.
However, the site is very popular among Americans under 30, with the Pew Research Center reporting that 63% of young people say they use TikTok.
The Biden campaign plans to communicate with voters on various social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram and Truth Social, but the move comes at a time when Biden is facing difficulties in gaining support among young voters, who are a core part of the Democratic Party voters, according to Politico.
Biden’s campaign has said that increased security measures will be taken over the app, although TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has said that it is not owned or controlled by the Chinese government.
In 2020, the Biden campaign used influencers to promote its message on TikTok.
