On the night to Wednesday, the 2nd of August, Russian armed forces used strike drones to attack Ukraine’s Danube port, causing a fire and damaging nearly 40 000 tonnes of grain, as reported by Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.
“Russians attacked warehouses and grain elevators – nearly 40 000 tonnes of grain was damaged,” Kubrakov announced on social networks. He stressed that the port is important in supplying the world with food, adding that
the damaged grain was intended for multiple African countries, China and Israel.
Kubrakov said Russia used drones supplied by Iran in the attack.
Head of administration of the Odessa region Oleh Kiper reported on Telegram that “as of 05:30 a.m. there is no information about any victims”.
Reuters reports that Russian drone attack in Izmail near the Danube suffered severe damages. The media previously reported that the attack was aimed at the docks in Izmail and caused severe damage to shipping on the Danube.

Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “South” reported that significant damage was caused to administrative buildings as well.
Due to Ukraine’s Black Sea port blockade, the Danube is considered the main alternative for Ukraine’s grain exports.
Forbes magazine reported that for the first time after Russia quit the grain deal Ukraine’s Danube ports received three foreign ships. According to the magazine, Greek and Israeli ships arrived at the Izmail port from the Bosphorus Strait. A Turkish-Georgian ship arrived from the north of Turkey.
