US tells its citizens to immediately leave Belarus

On Monday, the 21st of August, the US, called on its citizens to leave Belarus “immediately” since Lithuania closed two of its six border crossings with Belarus.

The US Embassy in Minsk advises against travel to Belarus due to Russian troop presence, potential unrest, and limited embassy assistance amid ongoing support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

The Embassy also admits to the potential closure of additional border crossings between Belarus and Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, as indicated by the respective governments.
US citizens in Belarus have been urged to leave the country immediately, either by using the border crossing points with Lithuania or Latvia, or by plane.
“US citizens are not allowed to enter Poland from Belarus by land,” the embassy reminds, warning against travel to Russia or Ukraine.
