US plans to hand over to Ukraine assets worth 5.4 million dollars confiscated from Russian oligarchs. This will be part of the new, more than one billion dollars-worth US support package for Ukraine, as announced by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday, the 6th of September.
“For the first time we are transferring to Ukraine assets seized from sanctioned Russian oligarchs, which will now be used to support Ukrainian military veterans. Those who have enabled Putin’s war of aggression should pay for it,” said Blinken at a joint press-conference with Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.
He stressed that the aforementioned 5.4 million dollars will be diverted towards war veterans’ reintegration and rehabilitation support.
Blinken also said Washington will continue providing rescue and medical aid, as well as emergency asylum to those whose homes were destroyed by the Russian aggression.
“We’re continuing lifesaving humanitarian assistance; emergency shelter for those whose homes Russia has destroyed; medical support and health care for survivors of relentless Russian missile attacks and shelling,” he said.
