The registered level of unemployment in Latvia was a t 7.2% at the end of January 2025. Compared to the end of December 2024, this is an increase of 0.2 percentage points, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
When compared to January 2024, the level of unemployment in Latvia has remained unchanged.
Among women, the unemployment rate in January 2025 increased by 0.1 percentage points compared to December – to 5.7%, while the unemployment rate among men increased by 0.3 percentage points – to 8.7%.
In January, there were 66 700 unemployed people in Latvia, which is 1 800 more than in December, but 1 100 less than in January 2024. Within a month, the number of unemployed men increased by 1 500, reaching 40 300, while the number of unemployed women increased by 300 – to 26 400.
The State Employment Agency (NVA) registered the unemployment level at 5.5% at the end of January. Since December 2024, unemployment has increased by 0.2 percentage points. When compared to January 2024, however, the level of unemployment in Latvia is down by 0.2 percentage points.
