Trump: I’d like to be Pope

Donald Trump, on Tuesday, the 28th of April, when asked by a journalist who should be the next leader of the Catholic Church, said, hopefully jokingly, that his “number one choice” would be himself. Tuesday also marked 100 days since Trump took office as US President. He marked the occasion by speaking at a rally in Michigan, where he highlighted his achievements and criticised his political opponents. However, polls show that Americans are increasingly sceptical about his positions on trade and immigration, according to Politico and Reuters.

Following the death of Pope Francis, the Vatican is currently searching for a new spiritual leader.

“I’D LIKE TO BE POPE” HE SAID, BEFORE SHARING HIS VIEWS ON WHO SHOULD ACTUALLY TAKE THE JOB.

Trump, who is not only quite busy as US president but is also a thrice-married billionaire, is unlikely to be chosen as head of the Catholic Church.

Asked who should replace Pope Francis, Trump said “I don’t have a favourite”, but added: “I have to say that we have a cardinal who is from New York who is very good, we’ll see what happens.”

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York is not thought to be among the main candidates to succeed Francis. There has never been a pope from the US.

Meanwhile, at a campaign-style rally, Trump praised his presidency and attacked judges, whom he accused of “trying to take away the powers that the President has”, accused Democrats of being “crazy” and “stupid” and criticised Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

“IN 100 DAYS, WE HAVE ACHIEVED THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN WASHINGTON IN ALMOST 100 YEARS,” TRUMP SAID.

He said the tariffs he imposed, which he called “a policy of common sense and genius” on US trading partners, could spur a resurgence of domestic manufacturing.

In recent weeks, Americans have become sceptical of Trump’s performance. In particular, Americans are worried about Trump’s management of the economy amid lingering inflation and fears of recession.

“Fake polls,” he said of the polls that show his approval rating hovering around 42%. “If they were legit polls, they would be around 60% and 70%.”

He repeated his call for Congress to cut taxes, which non-governmental organisation budget analysts say could add trillions to the country’s 36.6 trillion US dollar debt.

In his 90-minute speech, the President also criticised the “radical left lunatics”, briefly verbally sparred with someone in the crowd and clarified the audience’s favourite nicknames of his predecessor, President Joe Biden.

Trump, speaking in front of a banner reading “Golden Age”, paused to show supporters a video of deportees being removed from the US and sent to a huge prison in El Salvador.

The President also highlighted his administration’s investment in defence.

However, Trump has still not delivered on one of his key promises – to end the war in Ukraine on day one of his presidency.

Meanwhile, Democrats took to the Senate floor on Tuesday night with the slogan “100 days of chaos” against the Trump presidency.
