The first train run on Vilnius-Riga route may be organised as early as December 2023, as estimated by Lithuanian railway company LTG Link. Latvia, on the other hand, is more cautious about this plan. At the same time, Latvia promises not to put obstacles in the way, as reported by LTV News service.
There are two options to reach Vilnius from Riga using public transports: bus and aircraft. Soon enough there will be a third. The planned length of a train trip be tween the two Baltic capitals is four hours and 15 minutes, the report mentions.
This is comparable to a trip on a bus or a private plane. The Lithuanian company does not reveal the price of the train ticket. Only a handful of stops are planned for the train trip between Riga and Vilnius: Jelgava, Joniškis, Šiauliai, Kaišiadorys and Vilnius.
BNN previously reported that Lithuanian Minister of Transport Marius Skuodis previously reported on Linkeln platform that the first train trips between Vilnius and Riga may happen at the end of this year.
The provisional date is set for the 27th of December.
