Tinder announced its withdrawal from the Belarusian market as of the 15th of February, completely discontinuing its services. Users in Belarus have until Valentine’s Day to find “the one” and chat with others before the service is discontinued, this includes Tinder Gold subscribers, on Wednesday, the 17th of January, reports Politico, citing a Tinder press release.
Tinder’s parent company, Match Group, is withdrawing from the Belarusian market without disclosing the reason. However, the US-based platform has previously been
used to identify critics of President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
For example, in November 2022 a woman was detained in Minsk after her profile pictures depicting her protesting against the authoritarian leader were leaked to the police.
Tinder already left the Russian dating market in July 2023, citing its commitment to human rights.
Tinder now joins the long list of companies that have suspended operations in Belarus because of its support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
