Thunderstorms and +17°C – late May brings continued weather fluctuations

Friday will bring cloudy skies across Latvia, with some clearing expected in the west during the day. Rain is forecast for most of the country, with heavy showers and thunderstorms likely in the far eastern regions, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Winds will be light, slightly stronger along the coast. Maximum air temperatures will range from +11°C to +15°C, reaching up to +17°C in the easternmost areas.

Rain is also expected throughout most of the country over the weekend, with prolonged rainfall primarily in eastern regions, where intense thunderstorms are also possible. Precipitation will ease on Sunday, when only occasional light rain is expected in some areas.

On Saturday, fog or mist may form in some regions. Winds will remain light. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +2°C to +7°C, with eastern areas slightly milder at +7°C to +9°C. Daytime highs will reach +9°C to +14°C, with parts of Kurzeme seeing up to +15°C on Saturday and up to +17°C in places on Sunday.

The last week of May is set to begin with warmer weather, as daytime temperatures in many areas approach or even exceed +20°C. However, like the current week, multiple rain zones are expected to cross Latvia, resulting in a mix of dry and rainy days throughout the working week. Weather conditions will remain similarly variable.
