Today, the nationwide career education event Ēnu diena (Shadow Day) is taking place across Latvia, where students explore various professions by “shadowing” professionals in their daily work, according to Junior Achievement Latvia.
The aim of the event is to help young people better understand career choices and make more informed decisions about their future paths.
This year, more than 2,300 host organisations and professionals have participated, offering over 13,000 shadowing opportunities.
Students have shown the greatest interest in professions such as physiotherapist, lawyer, and police inspector. Other popular choices include firefighter-rescuer, architect, surgeon, dentist, and programmer.
The widest range of opportunities has been offered in fields such as police inspection, firefighting
and rescue services, and law.
The highest level of student participation has been recorded in Riga, as well as in Jelgava, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Liepāja, and Mārupe Municipality. In total, more than 22,000 students have registered on the platform enudiena.lv.
This year, a new feature was introduced on the platform—an AI-based test designed to help students identify shadowing opportunities that best match their interests and personality types. By answering 11 questions, participants received recommendations on suitable career paths.
Organisers note that Shadow Day also benefits employers, providing an opportunity to introduce young people to their work environment and attract future employees.
Last year, more than 2,200 hosts participated in the event, offering over 13,000 opportunities. The most popular professions among students were police inspector, firefighter-rescuer, lawyer, programmer, and pharmacist.
