Former politician, MEP and pro-Kremlin activist Andrejs Mamikins, who fled to Russia, has received payments from the State Labour Inspectorate for inactivity, even though he is no longer actually employed by the institution, as reported by TV3 programme Nekā personīga.
Mamikins was hired to work at the State Labour Inspectorate in October 2021. He was hired to serve as the head of the institution’s strategic communication. However, he did no remain in this post for long, as he was dismissed following a scandal. Because of a clerical error Mamikins’ contract did not include a probation period. This is why Riga City Latgale Suburb Court and then Riga Regional Court decided last June that the decision to lay him off was illegal. According to the text of the verdict available to the programme, the court ruled the State Labour Inspectorate was to pay Mamikins EUR 10 104.68 in unpaid wage and reinstate him in his post.
During this time the State Labour Inspectorate had liquidated the position Mamikins previously held, and so he was stuck with inactivity.
This means he didn’t work but was still paid EUR 1 318 every month regardless.
On the 27th of September 2022 the State Labour Inspectorate turned to a court of law in order to terminate the contract with Mamikins. After a year-long lawsuit Riga City Court satisfied the place on the 16th of October. Mamikins did not appeal it. This means the verdict came into force on the 7th of November.
This means that between August 2022 and November 2023, when the verdict was made to remove him, Mamikins was still paid for inactivity. The final payment for November 2023 together with remuneration for unused vacation was paid to him in December.
As previously reported, the State Security Service previously commenced criminal proceedings against Mamikins for the possible glorification and justification of Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine, as LETA was told by the service.
