Although the end of last week marked the start of astronomical spring and days became very warm thanks to strong anticyclone, the spring-like warms in Latvia will be replaced with windy weather at the end of this week. More precipitation is also expected. This can be explained with active cyclones influencing weather, according to Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Friday, 25 March, will be sunny and warm. During the day air temperature will reach +9° C… +15° C. It may be a couple of degrees colder along the coast.
Throughout the weekend weather in Latvia will be dictated by cyclone activity. This means warm and sully weather will be replaced with cloudy, precipitation-rich and windy weather.
On Saturday the sky will clear up only at times. Eastern territories of Latvia can expect some precipitation. In the second half of the night, the wind will blow from the west and north-west, reaching a speed of 20-24 m/sec (25-26 m/sec during the day). The wind is expected to cause the most damage in the country’s central and eastern parts, where the wind may break branches and cause power outages and other damages.

On Saturday, 26 March, colder masses of air will flow to the country, causing air temperature at night and during the day to stay within +2° C… +7° C.
On Sunday the weather will be cloudy. Eastern areas will experience rain and even wet snow. Whereas the day will pass without major precipitation. Night-time air temperature will drop as far as +1° C… -6° C, whereas daytime air temperature will be 0° C…+4° C.
Current forecasts suggest on Monday a new cyclone will pass through Latvia, bringing more precipitation and wind, the speed of which will once again exceed 20 m/sec. It is possible a snow warning may be declared in eastern territories. Forecasts will be clarified as new information comes in.
