The Saeima’s Education, Culture and Science Committee’s Sports sub-committee was informed of the decision to allocate additional funding by the Ministry of Education and Science Sports Department director Edgars Severs on Tuesday, the 17th of October.
Currently Latvia has a technical or temporary budget in place. This budget plan provides for EUR 39.8 million towards sports. Once this year’s budget has been approved, it is planned to divert another EUR 5.8 million towards this.
Additional funding of EUR 5.4 million is planned to be provided to various sports federations and sports events. State funding for this budget position is planned to reach approximately EUR 8.475 million. Funding for Murjāni Sports Gymnasium is planned at EUR 209 000. The total amount of funding to be provided to this school is EUR 2.77 million. Latvian Sport Museum is planned to receive an additional EUR 25 360 on top of the EUR 115 000 already approved.
Funding for Latvian Paralympic Committee is planned to be increased by EUR 200 000,
with the total state budget funding towards Paralympics reaching EUR 600 000.
Funding for remaining programmes is unchanged: EUR 627 957 towards sports structures, EUR 42 686 towards exceptional accomplishments in sports; EUR 242 415 as grants for the organisation of various international sports events in Latvia; EUR 1.6 million towards funding of national sports teams; EUR 22.4 million towards wages of various coaches and state social insurance contributions; EUR 7 million towards high-class accomplishments in sports; EUR 1.7 million towards repayment of state-guaranteed loans for Latvian Olympic Committee.
