“There is nothing else to do but form a new government” – Tavars critical of Siliņa’s “restart”

The government “restart” initiated by Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa is more like a “political paralysis”, said the leader of the Saeima faction of the Combined List party Edgars Tavars in his interview to TV3 programme “900 seconds”.

“Right now what we have is political paralysis – there is no sign of any “restart”,” said Tavars, adding that changes in the government are needed.

In his interview to 900 seconds, the Saeima deputy criticised certain aspects of Latvia’s foreign policy.

“It’s difficult for me to imagine the Progressive Minister of Defence or parliamentary secretary to travel to US and ask for support if they have recently participated in events in support of Palestine. It is equally difficult for me to understand how we are supposed to strengthen defensive capabilities without optimising state expenses,” said Tavars.

“We can see chaotic and unreasonable actions being performed one after another. There is nothing else to do but form a new government,” he argued.

BNN previously reported that on the 27th of February, the Latvian Saeima restored the mandates of now Ex-Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens, Ex-Minister of Welfare Uldis Augulis and Ex-Minister of Education Anda Čakša.

With this change in the government and the subsequent return of the three ministers to the parliament, their replacements – Ervins Labanovskis, Ģirts Štekerhofs and Jānis Reirs – will lose their posts.

As previously reported, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, when announcing the “restart” of her government, announced last week that she was dismissing the three aforementioned ministers. Wednesday, the 26th of February was their last day as ministers.
