On Tuesday and Wednesday skies will occasionally clear and sunshine will break through, while precipitation will decrease significantly. On Tuesday, light snow is expected in some southeastern areas as well as locally along the Gulf of Riga coast, while on Wednesday light snow is forecast in western Kurzeme, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Wednesday during the day, southeasterly and easterly winds will strengthen and become gusty, reaching up to 15 m/s along the Kurzeme coast. Daytime air temperatures across most of Latvia will rise to −4…−9°C, though on Wednesday in Latgale it will be colder, around −9…−13°C.
During the night into Wednesday, air temperatures will drop to −6…−11°C in western parts of the country, while it will be significantly colder in the east, where temperatures will fall to −11…−16°C.
On Thursday, cloudy conditions are expected, although skies will clear in many eastern regions.
Snow will occur at night and in the morning only in western Latvia. Along the Kurzeme coast, winds will be light to moderate, with gusts of 15–16 m/s. Night-time temperatures will range from −13…−18°C, while in Kurzeme they will be milder at −6…−11°C. During the day, temperatures will remain between −9…−14°C, in Kurzeme −4…−9°C, and in some parts of Latgale dropping as low as −16°C.
Towards the end of the week, dry and wintry cold conditions will persist across much of the country, with winds gradually easing. Skies will clear more often, and during the nights temperatures may locally approach −20°C. At the beginning of the following week, night-time temperatures in some areas may fall below −20°C.
