The documents received from the government do not provide guarantees that teachers’ demands will be implemented, said chairperson Latvian Trade Union of Education and Science Workers (LIZDA) Inga Vanaga in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma.
She stressed having received information late in the evening on Friday, the 14th of April. However, the received documents do not offer any guarantees for the implementation of the agreement and necessary amendments to requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Vanaga said politicians can still prevent the strike by adopting relevant amendments.
She reminded that teachers remain prepared for a procession and strike.
Today the Combined List will invite parties forming the coalition to discuss possible solutions to prevent the teachers’ strike.
Before the meeting in the government, politicians will also meet with LIZDA.
As it is known, LIZDA has plans to organise a protest on the 24th of April. There will also be a three-day teachers’ strike. The strike might be cancelled if politicians bring about some last-minute solutions, however.
Latvian PM Krišjānis Kariņš met with Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša and representatives of the Ministry of Finance last Friday. Politicians discussed the topic of teachers’ wages. An agreement was reached on wage growth schedule for the next three years, as confirmed by the prime minister’s office.
Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science are due to meet with LIZDA to present the ministry’s developed wage growth schedule.
