Russia’s army was created for parades, not battles, says director of NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (Stratcom) Jānis Sārts.
In his interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma, the expert said logistics is the most important factor in any war. «Logistics win wars. Firepower is a secondary factor. It was the reason why Russia failed to win in the first stage of the war,» said Sārts.
He explained that in spite of the fact that 9 May is coming close, Russia will try to create an impression of victory in Ukraine. «They will try to create this story for 9 May. They will likely fail,» said the Stratcom director.
He added that on the other hand people should keep in mind that «Kremlin’s ability to lead Russia’s residents into an orwellian world» is significant.
«They may attempt to tell about big accomplishments with major losses and no victories to speak of. I don’t exclude the possibility of an alternative reality forming,» he stressed.
He reminded that this isn’t the first time Russia acts this way in an uncomfortable situation. «In 2015, when they shot down Malaysian Airlines, Russia’s true goal was fracturing people’s trust in the real story,» said Sārts.
