Stationary speed radars in Latvia record speed limit violations worth EUR 8.9 million last year

Last year stationary speed radars in Latvia recorded a total of 233 656 speed limit violations. Latvian State Police made decisions to apply fines worth a total of EUR 8.9 million, as reported by Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).
Last year in 63% of cases speed limits were violated by vehicles registered in Latvia, and in 37% of cases – by vehicles registered abroad. In 2022, on the other hand, in 67% of cases speed limits were violated by vehicles registered in Latvia, and in 33% – by vehicles registered in foreign countries.
CSDD also reports that among the vehicles registered in third countries,

the majority of violations recorded by stationary photo radars were for vehicles registered in Ukraine – 21 150 speed limit violations,

which is 1.2% less when compared to 2022.
9 211 violations were recorded for vehicles registered in Russia, which is 56.3% or 2.3 times less when compared to 2022, when 21 076 road traffic violations committed by these vehicles were recorded.
8 327 road traffic violations were recorded for vehicles registered in Moldova, 3 342 road traffic violations for vehicles registered in Belarus, and 1 109 violations recorded for vehicles registered in Georgia.
CSDD maintains 100 stationary speed radars across Latvia. Average road speed cameras in Latvia are maintained by Latvian State Roads (LVC).
