State Revenue Service reports overall tax debts are down in Latvia

At the beginning of April 2023 the overall tax debts, including active and halted tax debts and debts with payment term extensions were at EUR 848.765 million, which is 2.9% lower when compared with March and 3.2% lower when compared with the beginning of the year, according to data from the State Revenue Service (VID).
Debts before the state base budget reached a total of EUR 401.226 million at the beginning of April 2023, which is a drop of 3.8% when compared with the beginning of March. Debts before budgets of municipalities reached EUR 278.116 million, which is 1.7% less when compared with the month prior. Debts of social insurance contributions reached EUR 169.423 million, which is a drop of 2.8%.
Active debts with late payment fee applied accounted for 58.2% of the total debt amount or EUR 494.085 million at the beginning of April 2023.
Data from VID indicates that debts worth a total of EUR 2.307 million are considered non-enforceable. These debts appeared from liquidated companies before the end of their liquidation procedure.
Debts worth a total of EUR 491.778 million are considered enforceable. This includes debts worth EUR 213.734 million that are realistically enforceable. Debts worth EUR 278.045 million are considered realistically unenforceable.
Repayment debt extensions were provided to debts worth EUR 123.695 million, which is 12.4% less when compared with the beginning of the year.
The volume of debts for which late payment fees are no longer calculated reached EUR 230.985 million at the beginning of April.
On the 1st of January 2023 the total amount of tax debts in Latvia reached EUR 876.776 million.
