State Audit reaches verdict in investigation of ex-PM Kariņš’s special flights

Latvian Stare Audit has reached a verdict in its investigation of the special flights used by Krišjānis Kariņš during this term as Latvian prime minister, according to information published by the institution.
The publication of the verdicts depends on whether or not the State Chancellery decides to challenge it in the State Audit Council. The State Chancellery has time until the 14th of March to do this.
If the verdict is not challenged, the State Audit will publish its report on the 15th of March.
If it does get challenged, however, the State Audit will have to take 30 days to review the complaint and make its decision.
As it is known, information about Krišjānis Kariņš using special flights to get to various destinations during this term received a backlash from Latvian residents. According to information from the State Chancellery, between 2021 and September 2023 Latvian state budget spent EUR 613 830 on these flights. Together with the costs covered by the EU, the total expenses reached EUR 1.36 million.
