Spring or winter? Snow and frost return to Latvia with temperatures dropping to -10°C

On Friday night, a large precipitation zone will continue to move across Latvia, bringing prolonged rain and snow to the eastern parts of the country during the first half of the day, with stronger wind gusts expected, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Center.

As the precipitation will be persistent, at times even heavy, and colder air will move in, a snow cover of up to 5cm may form in some areas. With temperatures remaining quite low, in some parts of eastern Latvia, the snow may remain until the beginning of next week. As the precipitation subsides, the skies will gradually clear up and the sun will shine. On Friday night, temperatures will drop to between -2°C and +2°C, and during the day, it will not get warmer than 0°C to +4°C.

Drivers are advised to be cautious, as the weather conditions on Friday may make driving difficult – visibility will be reduced during precipitation, and some road sections will be slippery and snow-covered, according to the meteorologists.

During the weekend, as atmospheric pressure rises, the weather will become drier and sunnier, but on Sunday afternoon, cloud cover will increase again, bringing light precipitation. Nighttime temperatures will continue to drop. Frost is expected across the country both on the night of Friday to Saturday and on the night of Saturday to Sunday, with temperatures in some areas dropping close to -10°C. During the day, temperatures will range from +2°C to +8°C. On Sunday, as atmospheric pressure changes rapidly, the weather will become windier.

In the first half of next week, nights will be frosty, and days will remain quite cool. With gusty winds, it will feel even colder. Later in the week, temperatures during daylight hours will start to rise, with the thermometer surpassing +10°C again, but frost will persist at night. In the second half of the week, the wind will calm down, and overall precipitation will be low – the weather will become more peaceful.
