The existing flu intensity in Latvia remains very low and meets the average levels of previous seasons, according to data published by the Disease Prevention and Control Centre (SPKC) for the past two weeks.
Since the start of the flu season in Latvia, general practitioners have registered 12 clinically confirmed cases of flu infection. In addition, the average flu intensity per week from the 7th of October to the 13th of October was 2.9 cases per 100 000 residents. 11.3 cases per 100 000 residents are registered in the age group from five to 14 years, while 2.3 cases per the same number of residents are registered in the age group from 15 to 64 years.
According to SPKC, currently the spread of fly is sporadic across different regions. Between the 7th and 13th of October, general practitioners also registered two clinical flu infection cases, which is by ten cases less when compared to the week prior. One confirmed flu infection in Liepaja is in the 15-64 years age group. The other case is in the 5 to 15 years age group in Jurmala.
Between the 30th of September and 13th of October there were no reports of deaths among flu patients, SPKC reports.
Between the 7th and the 13th of October, a total of 1 063 patients turned to doctors with complaints about symptoms of various upper respiratory infections. This is 920 patients more when compared to the week prior.
