Special welcoming event to take place at Freedom Monument in honour of Latvian basketball team’s success

Latvian basketball team will be returning home on Monday, the 11th of September. A special welcoming event will be organised at 17:30 pm at the Freedom Monument in Riga.
Fans are asked not to come to Riga International Airport. Instead they are invited to gather at the monument.

Information regarding the route the team will take from the airport to the monument will be announced later, as reported by Riga municipality.

The even will be broadcast live on TV3, as well as tv3.lv. The broadcast will begin at Riga International Airport at 16.30 pm (local time), where members of the press and family members will be the first to welcome the athletes home. Raimonds Zeps and Mārtiņš Gulbis will comment, as they were the ones who commented the TV3 live broadcasts during the team’s run in the tournament.
On Monday, the 11th of September, road traffic is likely to be shut down in the following ares in Riga: Aspazijas Boulevard (from Kr. Barona Street to Kaļķu Street); Brīvības Boulevard (from Raiņa Boulevard to Merķeļa Street); Raiņa Boulevard (from Kr. Valdemāra Street to Kr. Barona Street) and Zigfrīda Annas Meierovica Boulevard (from Kr. Valdemāra Street to Kaļķu Street).

If need be, public transport traffic may be diverted to other routes in the area.

No electric scooters, bicycles, rickshaws and electric cars will be allowed to enter the area, as reported by Riga City Council.
