Similarly to last week, this week’s weather in Latvia will be dictated by a cyclone, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Precipitation is expected – both snow and rain.
With warmer masses of air flowing to the country, air temperature at night and during the day will rise and will remain above 0° C.
On Monday, the 13th of March, as a cyclone approaches from the west, the amount of clouds will increase in most of Latvia’s territory. Precipitation is also expected. Precipitation will mainly consist of wet snow, snow, as well as rain in western territories. Roads will be slippery. Motorists are urged to be careful. The wind will blow from the north-west and west. Wind speed may reach 15-18 m/sec. Minimal air temperature at night will be at -5° C… -9° C (-1° C… -5° C along the coast). Daytime air temperature will reach 0° C… +4° C.
On Tuesday, the 14th of March, as cyclone activity increases, the sky will be covered by clouds, which will bring rain and wet snow. In eastern parts of the country it is expected to snow.
The fog may worsen visibility during the day.
Minimal night-time air temperature is expected between -1° C… +4° C. Daytime air temperature is expected at +5° C… +9° C.
On Wednesday, the 15th of March, the sky will be cloudy. Moments of clear sky are expected. Rain and snow is expected at night. No precipitation will come during the day. The wind will blow from the south and south-west, reaching a speed of up to 21 m/sec along the coast. Air temperature at night and during the day is expected at +1° C… +7° C.
Weather conditions will remain similar at the end of the week. Precipitation will remain, but it will not be as intense as in the beginning of the week. The wind will blow from the south and south-west. Wind speed may be high in western and central regions. Although daytime air temperature will reach +1° C… +6° C, air temperature at night may drop to 0° C… -6° C (-8° C in eastern parts of the country).
