On Wednesday, the 19th of February, some snowing is expected in most of the country. On Thursday, however, the layer of snow may increase by several centimetres, as reported by Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Visibility will worsen during snowing, roads will be snowed over and slippery, which will further complicate driving conditions. At night, the wind will blow from the north-west and west and will become strong along the coast.
Meteorologists say that the wind will become slower on Thursday. Air temperature will stay at +2° C… +3° C in most of the country and -3° C… -6° C in eastern parts of the country. At night, air temperature may drop as far as -9° C… -14° C (-1° C… -5° C along the coast and western regions). As the sky clears, however, air temperature may drop even further.
The layer of snow will increase somewhat on Friday. However, the spread and intensity of precipitation will be lower. While in most of Latvia weather will remain chilly, air temperature may fluctuate at around 0° C in western and coastal regions during the day.
This weekend weather in Latvia is expected to be clearer. Warmer masses of air will gradually flow to the country, causing snow to melt in most of the country. Although air temperature will remain negative at night, it will stay above 0° C during the day.
Air temperature is expected to become positive at night at the beginning of next week. Wind speed will go up, and there will be precipitation in most of the country – rain and wet snow.
