Significant progress made at the site of the Rail Baltica infrastructure maintenance point

Significant progress has been made at the construction site of the future Rail Baltica infrastructure maintenance point near Iecava, where intensive earthworks and construction of internal infrastructure are currently underway, informs ERB Rail.

The Iecava facility is the first active large-scale construction phase on the Rail Baltica main route in Latvia. Currently, more than two kilometers of internal access roads are being constructed in the area, which will serve as an essential basis for the future functions of the maintenance point. The removal of topsoil is underway in the area where the permanent Rail Baltica infrastructure maintenance point southern regional office building is planned (the second maintenance point is planned in Skulte, in the northern part of the main route). One of the main access roads is being embanked and a layer of erosion protection is being laid, while work on another access section has already been completed.

Following the deforestation works carried out by the company Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, the implementer of the Rail Baltica project in Latvia, on the territory of the main route and the infrastructure maintenance point, the team of the main route builder ERB Rail has carried out tree and shrub clearance on an area of 13,000 square meters.

So far, stumps have been removed on the construction site in an area of approximately 70,000 square meters, as well as more than 43,000 cubic meters of topsoil have been removed.

The works have been organized in close cooperation with local governments, operational services and other involved parties,

paying special attention to compliance with environmental requirements and the interests of residents, as well as to ensuring that the local community experiences the ongoing construction works as little as possible.

Earlier this month, the Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas and the Rail Baltica main route builder ERB Rail signed an act on the commencement of large-scale construction works on the Rail Baltica main route.

Construction work on the Rail Baltica main line in Latvia begins on the southern section of the Misa-Lithuanian border, which is divided into smaller sections – a total of 11 construction permits.

The approximately 16-hectare area of the Iecava infrastructure maintenance point during the construction of the main line will serve as a strategic logistics base and temporary office for the main line builder ERB Rail team for the construction of the southern section of the Rail Baltica main line, the company informs.
