On Tuesday, the 25th of March, the Riga City Court handed down a summary verdict in the criminal case of Latvian Occupation Museum arson. Three defendants were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment. The judgment has not yet entered into force.
On the 25th of March, a significant date in the history of Latvia’s occupation, the Riga City Court handed down its verdict in the criminal case against Konstantīns Engelis, Vitālijs Lukjanovičs and Valentīns Razmerics, finding them guilty.
Konstantīns Engelis was sentenced to six years and two months’ imprisonment with two years’ probation, Vitālijs Lukjanovičs to four years and six months’ imprisonment with two years’ probation, and Valentīns Razmerics to six years’ imprisonment with two years’ probation and suspended the right to carry out activities involving goods of strategic importance for a period of two years.
The court has upheld the victims’ claims in full, says Solvita Vība, Director of the Latvian Occupation Museum.
The full judgment may be appealed within ten working days from the day on which the full judgment is available to the Riga Regional Court.
The attack on the Latvian Occupation Museum took place on the night of the 28th of February 2024, when the window of the museum director Solvita Viba’s office on the first floor of the museum was broken and a bottle of Molotov cocktail was thrown into it.
