In April 2016 Latvian State police told journalists that in September 2014 three persons were detained for distributing forged 100 US dollar notes. During the investigation, however, no evidence was acquired as to the origin of those notes. Over the course of years authorities found that the same notes were found in Latvia, US and Britain.

Through analytical efforts police managed to narrow down the possible location of the printing house. It was eventually discovered in Latvia.
