Several injured and one dead in recent thunderstorm in Latvia

On Monday, the 7th of August, the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) had to provide assistance to Latvian residents who were injured in hail. One person died, as LTV programme Rīta panorāma was told by Minister of Health Līga Meņģelsone.
She said in nine cases ambulance crews were dispatched to assist injured residents.

Unfortunately, one of the people died from their injuries.

Several people received head injuries by falling trees. Three people were injured by hail.
According to information from Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, heavy rainfall will continue in eastern parts of the country on Tuesday. Yellow level warning is declared along the western coast line due to wind speed potentially reaching 20-22 m/sec on the 8th of August.
On Monday, the 7th of August, Latvia was struck by one of the biggest and most devastating thunderstorms in recent years – wind speed, for example, reached 30 m/sec in Madona and 33 m/sec in Dobele. Devastation was caused by the strong wind, large hail and lightning strikes.
