Rescue workers in a small Ukrainian city of Chasiv Yar located not far from the eastern front continue looking for survivors in the ruins following a missile attack suffered on Saturday, 9 July, as reported by British media The Guardian.
At least 43 people were killed, making it one of the biggest death tolls in Ukraine-controlled Donbas since the missile attack on Kramatorsk, which killed at least 52 people.
Rescuers have managed to find and pull from the ruins nine people. The Guardian was told that rescuers expect to find only corpses.
With Russian forces moving on from the recently captured Luhansk region, the front line, it seems, is nearing what remains of the civilians of Ukraine’s controlled Donetsk. Both regions compose Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region.
Ukrainian officials urge civilians to leave the area, as it may soon become a war zone. However, many of the people who remain in Chasiv Yar claim they don’t have the money to start anew, and they would rather stay in their homes instead of living in any other part of Ukraine. This situation is shared by millions of Ukrainians that live along the front line or in territories occupied by Russian forces.
