Savickis to leave his post as president of Latvian Tennis Union by October

Juris Savickis will leave his post as president of Latvian Tennis Union by October 2022, as he confirmed in an interview to LTV programme Sports News on Saturday, 7 May.
The amendments to the Sports Law implemented in April prohibit former KGB members or informants from taking leading posts in management boards of Latvian sports federations. This means Savickis must leave his post by 1 October 2022.

Otherwise the federation risks losing its status and state funding.

«We are law-abiding citizens. We will comply with the new law by October,» Savickis said in an interview to LTV.
«Our crowning achievement is the fact that tennis-wise were are basically a superpower. We have won against very big countries. Our tennis structure is well-organized – both materially and morally. We have everything we need to continue developing and maintain our level,» said Savickis, who has served as president of Latvian Tennis Unin since 1998.
In the past Savickis served as staff employee of Latvian KGB branch.
