Saeima speaker: Latvia will continue providing Ukraine with practical and military aid

«Ukraine’s complete victory is in our interests, as is the restoration of their independence and territorial integrity. This is a requirement for lasting peace in Europe,» said Latvian Saeima speaker Ināra Mūrniece on Monday, 8 May, during her meeting with vice-speaker of Ukrainian parliament Olena Kondratiuk.
During their meeting, both sides discussed aid for Ukraine in three dimensions: political, practical and moral, BNN was told by the parliament’s press-service.

«Events in Ukraine are changing history in Europe and the world. New terms are appearing more clearly in our political and everyday lives.

We can see the modern world has room for heroism. We have to work with each other and decide which values we will continue defending in the future,» said the Saeima’s speaker.
Latvia stands in favour of anti-Russian sanctions and the country’s international isolation. We stand in favour of giving Ukraine candidate state status, stressed Mūrniece, adding that Ukraine’s joining of the European Union would be a far-reaching step that will help strengthen both Ukraine and the west. The Saeima speaker also mentioned that Latvia will continue providing practical, military included, aid to Ukraine.
The vice-speaker of Ukraine’s parliament thanked Latvia’s Saeima, the government and residents for the support they provided Ukraine with on an international level and the aid for Ukrainians who ended up in Latvia, fleeing the war.
