Saeima opposition member to be penalised for almost missing parliament meeting

Opposition deputy Ainārs Šlesers (Latvia in First Place) will be penalised for unjustifiably delaying the parliament’s meeting. 20% of his monthly wage will be deducted as punishment, according to the decision made by the Saeima Praesidium.
Rules of Order of Saeima state that a Saeima deputy is to be penalised with a 20% deduction from his or her monthly wage for failing to appear for a meeting without a justified reason.
The delay of the Saeima’s 5th October meeting by Šlesers was declared unjustified. Which is why he will be punished for it.
According to information from the Saeima, in September and October 2023, Šlesers was paid EUR 4 491.63 each month.
