A bad peace is better than good war, said the leader of opposition party Latvia in First Place Ainārs Šlesers in an interview to LTV programme Rīta panorāma when asked about the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Šlesers said he hopes the next US President Donald Trump will achieve a quick end to the war. He did not comment on conditions for peace. Ukrainian politicians, on the other hand, have voiced concerns their country may be forced into capitulation.
The Latvian opposition politicians complained that the “Latvian power elite” has worked exclusively with Democrats in building political relations with the United States so far, but now Republicans have taken power.
“The world will change,” said Šlesers, adding once again that the existing liberal power in Latvia needs to be replaced. This is why he intends to work with politicians and residents who represent Christian values and consolidation until the next elections.
